Bank debt settlement in the UAE

When a loan or credit card has gone into default, a negotiated settlement can close the debt, the case and the ban together. We make sure it does.

In short

Banks in the UAE will often accept a negotiated settlement of a defaulted loan or credit card, either as a reduced one-off payment or as an instalment plan. The settlement is only complete when it also closes any court case, releases any travel ban and returns security cheques.

We assess what you owe and what you can pay, negotiate with the bank or its collection agency, and insist on written settlement terms, a clearance or liability letter and the formal release of every case linked to the debt.

What we handle

How we can help

I

Settlement of outstanding loans and credit cards

Personal loans, credit cards, overdrafts and auto loans: we review statements, interest and charges to understand the real figure before any offer is made.

II

Negotiating reduced payoff and instalment plans

Banks weigh what they can realistically recover. We present your position clearly and negotiate a payoff or plan you can actually meet.

III

Release of travel bans, cases and cheques

A settlement should close everything at once. We make sure the bank withdraws civil and criminal complaints, files the travel ban release and returns security cheques.

IV

Settlement letters and clearance certificates

Clearance and no-liability letters are your proof for the future, including for new credit and visa matters. We obtain them and check that they say what they should.

V

Dealing with collection agencies

Many banks pass files to collection agencies. We confirm that the agency is authorised for your account and that any agreement made with it binds the bank.

How it works

From first call to resolution

  1. Gather the facts

Statements, the last payment date, any SMS or court notices, and your current income and commitments. We also check for cases and bans linked to the debt.

  2. Assess and plan

We work out a realistic offer and explain the likely range of outcomes, including what happens if no settlement is reached.

  3. Negotiate

We negotiate directly with the bank or its authorised agent and put every proposal in writing.

  4. Pay through the proper channel

Payment is made to the bank against agreed written terms, never to an unverified account.

  5. Close everything

We obtain the settlement and clearance letters and confirm that cases are closed and the ban is lifted.

Why a settlement can be better than a court case

When a debt goes to court, interest, fees and legal costs add up on both sides, and a judgment can lead to execution against salary, accounts or assets. A negotiated settlement gives the bank certainty and gives you a fixed figure and an end date. For many people living or working in the UAE it is also the quickest way to remove a travel ban.

What to get in writing

Before any payment, the bank's written settlement offer should state the amount, the payment schedule, that the settlement is in full and final settlement of the named accounts, and that the bank will close all cases, withdraw complaints, release travel bans and return security cheques. After payment, ask for a clearance or no-liability letter. Our guide to settling a bank loan or credit card debt covers each point.

If you cannot pay at all

Where the debts are larger than you can realistically pay, a settlement may not be enough. The UAE's personal insolvency framework offers a court-supervised route for individuals. We explain it on our bankruptcy page.

FAQ

Bank Settled Disputes: your questions

Often, yes, particularly on older or unsecured debts, but it depends on the bank, the amount and your circumstances. We give you an honest view before any offer is made.

It should, but only if the release is part of the settlement and is filed with the court or authority. We make sure it is written into the terms and then confirm the ban has been lifted.

Yes. Settlements are negotiated in writing and payments made through the bank, so most of the work can be done while you are abroad.

It is the bank's written confirmation that you owe nothing further on the settled accounts. Keep it: you may need it for future credit, visa or legal matters.

Fees are quoted after the first consultation, once we know the number of accounts and cases involved. The fee is agreed in writing before work starts.
