Civil litigation in the UAE
Contract, debt and damages claims, labour cases and family matters: prepared with care and followed from the first notice to the final enforcement.
Civil cases in the UAE are decided by the federal courts or the local courts of each emirate, with appeals to higher courts. Most turn on documents, deadlines and the way the claim is framed from the start.
We assess the merits, prepare claims and defences with the evidence they need, manage the case through each stage and the appeal, and coordinate with licensed UAE advocates for hearings, so you have one team from start to finish.
How we can help
Contract, debt and damages claims
Breach of contract, unpaid sums, defective work and losses caused by another party: we work out what you can prove and what it is worth.
Employment and labour disputes
Unpaid salary, gratuity, wrongful termination and contract disputes usually start with a complaint to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation before any court case. We prepare the complaint and the next steps.
Family and personal status matters
Divorce, custody, maintenance and related matters, including the civil personal status rules available to non-Muslims.
Appeals and enforcement of judgments
We review judgments for grounds of appeal within the strict time limits, and turn final judgments into payment through execution.
From first call to resolution
Case assessment
We read the documents, identify the claims and defences and give you a frank view of the strengths and risks.
Pre-action steps
Notices, complaints and settlement attempts that the law or good practice requires before a claim.
Pleadings and evidence
Claims, defences and supporting evidence, translated into Arabic where the court requires it.
Hearings and expert stages
We prepare you and the file for each stage, including court-appointed experts, who often decide technical and financial issues.
Judgment, appeal and enforcement
We advise on appeal deadlines and then on execution against assets, salary or accounts.
How civil cases in the UAE differ from India
Clients who know the Indian system are often surprised by three things. Proceedings are in Arabic, so documents need certified translation. Courts rely heavily on written submissions and on court-appointed experts rather than long oral hearings. And deadlines for appeals are short and strict. Our team includes advocates with years of litigation practice in India and advisory experience in the UAE, so we can explain the differences in terms you already know.
Labour disputes
Most employment disputes begin with a complaint to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, which tries to settle the matter before referring it to court. We prepare complaints for employees and responses for employers, covering wages, end-of-service gratuity, notice, and absconding reports, and we advise on how a labour dispute can affect a visa.
Civil Litigation: your questions
A first-instance judgment typically takes several months, longer if an expert is appointed, and appeals add more time. We give you a realistic timeline for your case at the start.
Usually, yes. UAE courts work in Arabic, so contracts, emails and evidence in other languages normally need certified translation.
In most cases a complaint must first be made to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, which attempts a settlement before referring the dispute to court.
Fees are quoted after the first consultation, once we understand the claim and its stages, and agreed in writing before work begins.
